Engineering provided comprehensive engineering
services for the planning, analysis, design,
and construction management for the replacement
of a 48-inch diameter culvert. The culvert,
in place for over 20 years, presented a fish
passage barrier to a natural run of Chum, Coho,
and Chinook salmon. The replacement culvert
consisted of a 12-foot by 10-foot arch culvert.
The replacement culvert included streambed stabilizers
to maintain a natural streambed through the
culvert.
The
secondary purpose of the project included streambank
and streambed protection from erosion. Over
the previous 10 years, the stream channel had
downcut nearly two feet and meandered 10 feet.
Stream protection measures included streambed
and streambank stabilizers using natural materials
and vegetation.
The
project included coordination of efforts with
both the Puyallup Indian Tribe and the Washington
State Department of Fish and Wildlife. |
